Day 1: Arrival in Varanasi – Evening Ganga Aarti
Arrive in Varanasi and transfer to your hotel. After some rest, head towards the historic ghats of the River Ganga. Witness the evening Ganga Aarti and experience the sacred atmosphere of one of India’s oldest spiritual cities. Return to the hotel for an overnight stay in Varanasi.
Day 2: Varanasi – Sarnath
Begin the day with an optional sunrise boat ride on the Ganga. After breakfast, proceed to Sarnath, the sacred place where Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon after attaining enlightenment. Visit Dhamek Stupa, the archaeological complex and Mulagandha Kuti Vihara. Spend time absorbing the peaceful surroundings before returning to Varanasi. Overnight stay in Varanasi.
Day 3: Varanasi – Bodh Gaya
After breakfast, leave for Bodh Gaya, one of the most revered Buddhist pilgrimage destinations in the world. On arrival, check in at the hotel. Later, visit the Mahabodhi Temple complex and spend a quiet evening near the sacred Bodhi Tree, associated with Buddha’s enlightenment. Overnight stay in Bodh Gaya.
Day 4: Bodh Gaya – Monasteries & Meditation
Dedicate the day to the spiritual landscape of Bodh Gaya. Explore monasteries and temples established by Buddhist communities from countries such as Thailand, Japan, Bhutan and Tibet. Visit the Great Buddha Statue and spend time in meditation or personal reflection around the Mahabodhi Temple complex. Overnight stay in Bodh Gaya.
Day 5: Bodh Gaya – Rajgir – Nalanda
Travel to Rajgir, an important centre connected with the life and teachings of Lord Buddha. Visit Griddhakuta, also known as Vulture Peak, and other significant Buddhist sites. Continue to Nalanda to explore the ruins of the renowned ancient centre of Buddhist learning. Later, check in at your hotel in the Rajgir/Nalanda area. Overnight stay.
Day 6: Rajgir / Nalanda – Vaishali – Kushinagar
After breakfast, continue the pilgrimage towards Vaishali, where Buddha visited and taught on several occasions. See the Ashokan Pillar and important archaeological remains before proceeding to Kushinagar. Arrive by evening and settle into your hotel. Overnight stay in Kushinagar.
Day 7: Kushinagar – Shravasti
Begin with a visit to the Mahaparinirvana Temple and Ramabhar Stupa, two of the most significant Buddhist landmarks in Kushinagar. Afterwards, drive towards Shravasti, where Buddha spent many monsoon retreats. On arrival, check in and relax after the journey. Overnight stay in Shravasti.
Day 8: Shravasti Sightseeing – Departure
After breakfast, explore Jetavana Monastery, Anandabodhi Tree and the ancient remains associated with Buddha’s teachings in Shravasti. Spend some peaceful time within the sacred complex before beginning your onward journey to Lucknow or another convenient departure point. The tour concludes with enriching memories of Buddhism’s most important places of teaching, enlightenment and spiritual reflection.
