Day 1: Arrival in Leh – Acclimatization
Arrive at Leh Airport and transfer to your hotel. Spend the day resting and allowing your body to adjust to Ladakh’s high altitude. Stay hydrated and avoid strenuous activity. If comfortable, take a short evening walk around Leh Market. Overnight stay in Leh.
Day 2: Leh – Acclimatization & Local Sightseeing
Keep another day for acclimatization before beginning the trek. Visit Shanti Stupa, Leh Palace and selected nearby monasteries or attractions. Later, meet the trekking team, check your equipment and receive a briefing about the trail, safety and high-altitude conditions. Overnight stay in Leh.
Day 3: Leh – Chilling – Skiu
After breakfast, drive from Leh towards Chilling and the trek starting point. Begin your walk towards Skiu through the beautiful landscapes of the Markha Valley region. Follow mountain trails with views of barren cliffs, river valleys and traditional settlements. Arrive at Skiu and settle into your camp or homestay. Overnight stay in Skiu.
Day 4: Skiu – Markha Village
Begin the trek after breakfast and follow the trail through the scenic valley towards Markha Village. Cross streams and pass small settlements, agricultural fields and striking mountain formations along the way. Reach Markha, one of the valley’s prominent villages, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings and traditional Ladakhi lifestyle. Overnight stay in Markha Village.
Day 5: Markha – Hankar
Continue deeper into the valley as the landscape becomes increasingly dramatic. Trek past traditional settlements, monasteries and mountain scenery while gradually gaining altitude. Reach Hankar, surrounded by impressive Himalayan peaks and rugged terrain. Spend the evening resting and preparing for the higher sections of the trek. Overnight stay in Hankar.
Day 6: Hankar – Nimaling
After breakfast, begin the climb towards Nimaling, one of the most spectacular high-altitude camping areas on the Markha Valley Trek. The trail offers wide mountain views and, in clear weather, impressive sights of Kang Yatse. Arrive at Nimaling and spend the rest of the day acclimatizing and relaxing. Overnight stay in camp at Nimaling.
Day 7: Nimaling – Acclimatization & Exploration
Keep the day comparatively relaxed at Nimaling to adjust to the altitude before crossing the high pass. Take short acclimatization walks around the plateau and enjoy expansive views of the surrounding mountains. Use the remaining time to rest, hydrate and prepare for the challenging trek ahead. Overnight stay in Nimaling.
Day 8: Nimaling – Kongmaru La – Shang Sumdo
Start early for one of the most challenging and rewarding days of the trek. Climb towards Kongmaru La and enjoy spectacular panoramic views from the high mountain pass. Descend carefully through dramatic gorges and changing landscapes towards Shang Sumdo. On arrival, relax after completing the major high-altitude section of the trek. Overnight stay near Shang Sumdo.
Day 9: Shang Sumdo – Leh
After breakfast, complete the remaining trek and meet your vehicle for the drive back to Leh. Enjoy the changing landscapes as you return to the city. Check in to your hotel and spend the evening at leisure, exploring Leh Market or simply relaxing after your trekking adventure. Overnight stay in Leh.
Day 10: Leh – Departure
After breakfast, check out from the hotel and transfer to Leh Airport for your onward journey. The Markha Valley Trek concludes with unforgettable memories of remote Ladakhi villages, river valleys, high-altitude camps, Kongmaru La and the spectacular Himalayan wilderness.
